Ignition repair cost: identify the component before pricing
An ignition problem does not always require a complete ignition replacement. A worn key, mechanical lock cylinder, electrical switch, steering-lock component and immobilizer fault can call for different work. Comparing the symptoms and confirming the vehicle helps avoid pricing the wrong repair.
- A key that will not turn needs a different inspection than a key that turns normally but does not start the vehicle.
- The mechanical ignition lock cylinder and electrical ignition switch are different components; replacing one does not automatically fix the other.
- A worn or broken key may need cutting or replacement, while some security-related repairs also require vehicle-specific programming.
- Vehicle year, make, model, required parts, accessibility and confirmed failure determine the work; approve the final scope and price before service.
